@NASA, Logi: Dass das Numbi-Gate unsicher ist, und es Alternativen gibt, ist doch die falsche Diskussion. Es geht darum, dass das schon lange so ist, und nichts passiert ist, um das zu ändern. Das ist Staatsversagen. Und es gibt eben auch genug Touristen, die nur die Hochglanzprospekte kennen, und das nicht wissen.

auf die Idee zu prüfen, ob bestimmte KNP Gates unsicherer sind und bestimmte nicht bin ich jedenfalls in über 10 Jahren Afrika nicht gekommen. Natürlich checke ich bei Reisen, welche Gegenden ich eher meide und welche mir angenehmer erscheinen.
Allerdings bin ich bei den Krugerpark Gates davon ausgegangen dass es keine Unterschiede dort gibt.

Wenn ich das jetzt hier so richtig verstanden habe, dann ist die Park-Anreise über die N4 im Süden eher sinnvoll?
Ich werde einfach die Tour ganz leicht umstellen vermutlich die Übernachtung in Whiteriver stornieren und irgendwo in Richtung Malelane Gate übernachten. Die direkte Durchreise vom Airport bis in den Park rein wird mir zu knapp am Abend.

Hallo, wir fahren nur noch über Malelane in den KNP. Schon 2017 wurde uns von einem Lodge-Manager in Hazyview gesagt dass wir Numbi Gate und Phabeni Gate immer meiden sollen.
Leider wissen das natürlich nicht alle und man hat nirgends, egal wo auf der Welt, 100% Sicherheit.
Aber wir werden in wenigen Wochen auch wieder über Malelane in den Park fahren.....haben uns bisher da noch nie unsicher gefühlt...

Ich fand es im August angenehm statt von Johannesburg von Nelspruit zu starten. Dann über über das Malelane Gate in den Kruger. Der Flughafen in Nelspruit ist sehr klein, das spart noch einmal zusätzlich Zeit bei den Wegen und der Fahrzeugübernahme im Vergleich zu JNB. Wenn man z.B. in Berg en Dal die erste Station im Kruger macht, kann man sich eine Übernachtung außerhalb sparen.

Die ständigen Blockaden bei den Zugängen zum Kruger tragen derzeit nicht zur Sicherheit bei, weil man beim Umfahren zwangsläufig in Gebiete kommen kann, in die man eigentlich nicht fahren wollte.

dass es in der Gegend bereits 11 Raubüberfälle auf Toristen gegeben hat.
(Zeitraum hat er auch auf Nachfrage nicht genannt)

Tourists urged to use alternative entrance gates to Kruger National Park

South African National Parks (SANParks) has urged tourists to consider utilising other entrance gates into the Kruger National Park following the recent attack on a group of four German tourists and the subsequent fatal shooting of one of the group members earlier in the week.

This is according to SANParks Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ms Hapiloe Sello who said the organisation is deeply saddened by the recent spate of attacks on visitors en route to the iconic national park, particularly on the road leading to Numbi Gate south of the park... "and urges tourists with active and future bookings to use other entrance gates to the Park."

On behalf of the staff and Board of SANParks, she again sent her heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family and friends of the deceased and thanked the government and all South Africans for the outpouring of support following this tragic incident.

"We fully appreciate that this incident has brought a lot of apprehension to many of our loyal local and international visitors which could result in cancellations for planned visits to the Park and surrounding areas. It is thus important for us to remind our loyal visitors that Kruger has a total of 10 gates which tourists can safely enter from. In the south of the Park are five other entrances, namely Paul Kruger, Phabeni and Orpen Gates through the R40 from White River and Malelane and Crocodile Bridge through the N4 toll road towards Komatipoort in Mpumalanga province. In the north of the Park, visitors can enter through Phalaborwa, Punda Maria or Pafuri and lastly, Giriyondo Border Post allows access directly from Mozambique."

She said with the tourism industry currently in the midst of a post Covid-19 recovery plan, such incidents undermine the marketing efforts of tourism stakeholders. Sello called on law enforcement agencies to leave nothing to chance in bringing the perpetrators to book. "We also urge members of the adjacent communities to the Kruger National Park to assist with any information that could lead to the arrests of the suspects," concluded Ms Sello.

I was one of the victims of the recent Malelane gate robbery. And after reading all the “half info” articles, I decided to make this post to bare the good, bad and ugly truth.
Here is the ugly part:
Yes, most of the cameras at Malelane gate does not work
Yes, the gate guards did not help us
And sadly Yes, none of our insurance claims were approved (we will fight and win this one)
The bad part:
It happened within literally 1 minute.
We DID lock the car
It did happen right in front of the gate
All our stuff was stolen and we are aware we will never get it back.
BUT… here is the good part:
I am not going to mention names as I dont think I am allowed to, but damn, I wish I could as I want give all the praise I can to one specific lady from the tourism industry.
She got hold of me, and contacted all the right people at SANparks, she kept me in the loop of everything! Chief Officers phoned me from SANparks at Skukuza and we took hands along with SAPS Malelane to work through what we could do. In one day we have so much information that I hope we can get this case closed soon
We are making insane progress on who is responsible, I cannot go into detail.
And yes, SANparks’ Chiefs and SAPS had a meeting at Malelane about the plans going forward to protect the tourists. We were invited to the meeting, but could unfortunately not attend. And there ARE going to be more security in future and lots of improvements.
Although many things could have prevented this…. This lady from the tourism industry stopped at nothing to help us. SANparks stepped up and helped the case and SAPS are still in contact with us.
Although I spent my life savings on my camera and lens. I will have to start from scratch now…
I am in awe of the tourism community and SANparks and this one superwoman of a lady!!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Still a long way to go, and still heartbroken, and still feel terrible, but the help I got after this happened made me realize how amazing this community is and that I still am proudly South African!!
