Die Strassensperren waren Ende letzter Woche mit wenigen Ausnahmen (Kleinabschnitte) alle aufgehoben. Die Grader haben gute Arbeit geleistet. Die Sperrungen betrafen primär den Bereich zwischen Satara und Mopani.

Der grösste Teil des Parkes ist bereits grün - die grosse Ausnahme ist der Pafuri wo die Elefanten nun die Rinde von den grossen Fevertree Bäumen schälen - was wahrscheinlich mit dem Tod dieser Baumriesen enden wird.

ROAD CLOSURES DUE TO CURRENT RAINFALL IN THE PARK :

@ 13:00 11 December 2019
All gravel roads are temporarily closed throughout the park due to heavy rains until further notice.
Closed roads are marked with “No Entry” signs or blocked with other objects. People should refrain from opening and driving on these roads as closures are necessary to ensure their safety. Technical Services Team will continue to monitor the situation and request co-operation in this regard.

Media Release: Ring in the new year at the new Skukuza Safari Lodge in Kruger National Park
24 December 2019

The new Skukuza Safari Lodge situated in the south of the iconic Kruger National Park is almost ready to welcome the first guests with a special rate for last-minute holidaymakers this New Years Eve.

According to South African National Parks (SANParks), Managing Executive: Tourism Development and Marketing, Hapiloe Sello, the lodge will open a limited number of rooms as part of a soft launch.

Sello said “in preparation for an official opening early next year, SANParks is using this period as a test phase and is inviting guests to provide constructive feedback in preparation for the full launch early in the new year’.

SANParks is offering guests a 20% discounted rate for stays between 30 December 2019 to 31 January 2020. According to Sello, at this stage, the lodge will have limited services and restaurant and catering will not be available. However, guests will have access to all catering services and other amenities at the Skukuza camp.

Elefant attackiert Auto nahe dem Phalaborwa gate.

BREAKING NEWS: ELEPHANT BULL TACKLES TOURISTS' VEHICLE AT PHALABORWA GATE

Bulletin received these images from a source who alleged that at some time during this afternoon, an elephant bull charged and impaled a tourist vehicle just inside the Kruger National Park at the Phalaborwa gate.

We have asked SANParks for comment and will update this report with information once received.

The tourists are believed to be from Iran and are staying the night at a lodge in Phalaborwa. We believe that none of them were hurt.

It is not clear whybthe animal charged the vehicle or what happened to it after the incident.

We await response on the matter.

UPDATE:

SANParks spokesperson, Ike Phaahla, has confirmed that four tourists were in their vehicle viewing an elephant bull when the animal charged their vehicle.

He confirmed that none of them were injured.

Media Release: Fire breaks out at the Letaba Shop
10 September 2020

Kruger National Park (KNP), management today confirmed that a fire broke out from the shop storeroom at Letaba Rest Camp and completely gutted the shop as well as the staff television room yesterday, 9 September 2020 in the evening at around 20:00.

Staff members at Letaba and Olifants as well as the fire and rescue team from Phalaborwa managed to contain the fire before it could spread to other structures linked to the shop building, but the shop and staff television room could not be saved.

Reacting to the news, the Managing Executive of KNP, Gareth Coleman said "we are grateful that no life was lost and no staff nor visitors sustained any injuries. We also extend our gratitude to the staff and emergency services team who contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to other structures".

Guests who have bookings at Letaba must for now bring own basic necessities until such time that a temporary shop has been set up. The cause of the fire is still being investigated and an update will be provided in due course.

Media Release: Fire breaks out at Berg-en-Dal Restaurant
14 September 2020

Kruger National Park (KNP), management today confirmed that a fire broke out from the restaurant kitchen at Berg en Dal Rest Camp today, 14 September 2020 at around 10:00. The contractor team who are refurbishing the units at the camp together with staff members reacted quickly and managed to contain the fire before it could spread throughout the whole building, but part of the facility (kitchen and dining hall) has been damaged.

No injuries or fatalities were reported. The cause of the fire is still being investigated at this stage and an update will be provided in due course.

Media Release: Temporary closure of Lower Sabie Rest Camp in KNP
14 January 2021

South African National Park (SANParks) today, 14 January 2021 announced the temporary closure of Lower Sabie Rest Camp as a precautionary measure after ten employees tested positive for COVID-19. The employees are in isolation and all protocols regarding these developments have been implemented accordingly.

All visitors who are still in the camp have been informed of the situation and offered alternative accommodation at unaffected camps or postponement of their visit.

The Managing Executive, Gareth Coleman apologised for the inconvenience caused by this development and appealed for understanding from all affected parties saying "the park has implemented all necessary protocols for the safety of both employees and visitors, the spike in infections among our staff has necessitated swift action from our side. We are busy with contact tracing while the employees are in isolation and will advise the public on the reopening date after a thorough assessment and decontamination of the rest camp has been made by the task team" concluded Coleman.

People with confirmed bookings are being contacted by the reservations team to make alternative arrangements which include opting for alternative camps or dates.

Media Release: KNP on high alert as Tropical Storm Eloise hits Mozambique
22 January 2021

According to reports from the South African Weather Services, various parts of the Kruger National Park (KNP) particularly in the far north, will be affected by major rainfall and strong winds over the coming weekend, specifically on Sunday, 24 January 2021, due to the Tropical Storm Eloise. Disaster teams in the park and external role-players are on high alert and monitoring its path as it approaches landfall.

"Our scientists, in conjunction with the South African Weather Services are closely monitoring developments and will advise on whether we need to evacuate camps in the affected areas or not. As a precautionary measure, we have already closed all gravel roads and some facilities in the Pafuri area after heavy rains which fell in the evening of 20 January 2021", said Managing Executive at the KNP, Gareth Coleman.

South African National Parks (SANParks) advises that those persons with bookings at flagged camps in the far north such as Sirheni, Shimuwini and Bateleur Bushveld Camps as well as Sable Hide will be accommodated at Letaba, Mopani, Shingwedzi and Punda Maria Rest Camps.

"Emergency teams are on standby in the park, monitoring the situation and will be activated if there is any danger. We urge tourists to be extra cautious during this period and to call our emergency number for any assistance only on 076 801 9679 or 013 735 0197/4064"; concluded Coleman.
