"Das private Straßensanierungs-Projekt im Etosha-Nationalpark geht sehr gut voran. Dies teilte Initiator Chris Theron im Gespräch mit Hitradio Namibia mit. Er habe das Projekt nach Genehmigung durch das Umweltministerium mit einer Privateinlage von 700.000 Namibia Dollar begonnen. Alle Hauptstraßen wurden binnen sieben Tagen, die Nebenstraßen in drei Tagen komplett geschoben. In der aktuellen Phase 2 wird die Durchgangsstraße von Namutoni bis Dolomite erneut begradigt. Sechs Grader, davon zwei vom Umweltministerium, waren zu Hochzeiten im Einsatz. Zudem wurden die staatlichen Grader-Fahrer ausgebildet und werden für ein Jahr weiter unterstützt. - Bisher seien Spenden von 400.000 Namibia Dollar eingegangen." (Hitradio Namibia, 15.8.2019)

Walvis Bay Endurance Ride will take place on the 28/08/2019.
Please be aware of horses and riders in the surrounding vicinity of Walvis Bay. Horses and riders will be crossing the roads as from 05h30 (Wednesday - 28/08) throughout the day.
Please take extra precautions at the Narraville Bridge crossing as well as the crossing of horses and riders on the C14 route in the vicinity of the Mall.

Mr. Travis travelled 2400 kilometres through the Northwest in eight days and submitted his experiences to be shared, lamenting the sorry state of affairs concerning cattle and donkeys along his route from Walvis Bay. He drove to Springbokwater, Damaraland, Palmwag, Purros, all the way back via Marienfluss, Oropembe, Opuwa, and to Epupa, where he turned back again to get to Outjo and back to Walvis Bay. His sojourn on the rough outlaying gravel routes was to find the beauty in nature, but he had to confront the reality of one of the driest years Namibia have seen in almost ten decades. While most cattle herders moved east and north to look for grazing for their herds and government officials already reporting conflict in the far east around Mpunguvlei in Kavango West, and across the border in Angola, the traveller to the rich cattle fields of the Beesvlakte had precious little in terms of cattle and wild life to see. Mr. Travis yesterday upon their return to Walvis Bay said that the wind and dust are terrible companions to the holidaymakers on a tour through Namibia. "We saw hundreds of tourists, and they complained about the wind and dust, but still appreciate our country." Being a Namibian citizen in his sixties, he said he never saw the country this dry, and the animals, both wild and domesticated, this emaciated. With the first rains still weeks away, he is convinced that animal losses are going to pile up yet. From the southern routes, where holidaymakers drive bumper to bumper between Sossusvlei and Walvis Bay, complaints about the terrible condition of the roads, the C19 and C28, are of great concern, while the east wind, this late in the season, also did not spare a single soul, he learned on his way. An experienced local traveller, Mr. Travis lamented the general condition of the gravel road network in general and admitted that he found road graders along his way, but they were few and far apart on roads so frequented by inexperienced self-drive visitors. "I strongly suggest better induction training by car rental companies, focussing on skills, tyre pressure," suggested.

Nur als Info dazu vom 8. August 2019, also vor 2 Monaten: "Möglicherweise müssen Autofahrer im Land in Zukunft für die Benutzung einzelner Straßen zahlen. Eine dementsprechende Studie hat die Road Fund Administration RFA in Auftrag gegeben. Finanzminister Calle Schlettwein hat vor einer Maut gewarnt, da sie die ohnehin gebeutelte Bevölkerung unnötig weiter belasten würde. Laut dem Geschäftsführer der RFA, Ali Ipinge, befinde man sich derzeit noch in einer frühen Phase der Machbarkeit. Eine ähnliche Studie wurde 2008 bereits durchgeführt. Die derzeitige Finanzierung der namibischen Straßen sei nicht nachhaltig, betonte Ipinge. - Möglich erscheint eine Maut auf den drei in den letzten Jahren gebauten bzw. derzeit im Bau befindlichen Autobahnen zwischen Windhoek und Okahandja, Windhoek und dem Internationalen Flughafen sowie Swakopmund und Walvis Bay." Mostly in a fair condition but some sections considered very bad. Plenty corrugation and uneven patches in some areas ... we strongly advise the following:
• Inexperienced driver to consider the B2 route as alternative • Not to drive the said route with a sedan vehicle • Adhere to the speed limit and to adapt speed as per road conditions and load (PS - the speedlimit is not a target) • Adapt tyre pressure • Take it slow and if in a hurry PLEASE don't consider taking this route • Road maintenance ongoing • REMEMBER: Limited or no cellphone reception most of the way
Zustand der C14 (Solitaire-Walvis Bay) ist mit Stand gestern als gut bis sehr gut zu bezeichnen. Es sind auch kaum Autos unterwegs (haben vielleicht 10 gesehen), so dass die Pad derzeit gut geschont wird. Ohne größere Stopps bin ich von Desert Grace bis Swakop keine 5 Stunden gefahren.

Dann wurde das Stück aber super schnell gemacht im Januar, da sie Ende Dezember definitif nicht als "gut bis sehr gut zu bezeichnen" war. Jedenfals nicht für unerfahrene Gravelfahrer. Um das zu erreichen, braucht es schon etwas länger als einen Monat.
Sie war aber etwas besser als 2018/19 Dez/Jan.

Gerade in solitaire angekommen. C14 mittelmäßig. Von wb kommend vor solitaire recht rau. Nicht schön, mit 80 bis 90 km h aber gut fahrbar. 40 Grad gerade hier.

Solitaire nach Sossusvlei sehr rau die Piste. Hier in solitaire stehen aber zwei grader, man kann hoffen.

PLEASE take note that there are a lot of construction activities taking place on the MR44 route (road behind dunes) where the tarred section meets the salt/gravel section. Numerous construction machinery and vehicles within this area with the road surface being wet in some places. PLEASE adapt speed well in advance and pay attention to all roadsigns. Also allow yourself to be guided by the flagman in position.
Roadworks at the railcrossing on the C34 route behind the DRC. The area is badly lit and there is a detour in place. The detour is characterized by short turns and rough road surface especially at the crossing itself. Numerous warning signs in place with a reduction in speed and stop-sign at the crossing. Caution advised especially at nighttime !!!
