Some questions

Dear friends, the date of the trip is getting close, and there are lotsof questions to be answered for me. As I am not very familiar with camping, I know there would be some objects that will help a lot when camping, so I appriciate any advise. Another problem would be the food. We are traveling at a low cost budget, in a hilux, and most of the nights we will be in a campsites. The idea is to make a big bought at supermarket the first day, before going to Ethosa, but make a list to buy food in a nambia´s supermarket is going to be a caos, as I have no idea of what a namibian supermarket sells.... Could anybody help about what would be a good supertmarket list for a travel of 20 days in namibia??

Lets go:
-barbaque carbon (how many bags???)
-Water
-wine
-milk
-meat

I might plan to take some spanish food with me, ham, some bottled fish, but is it allowed to enter food in namibia??? Another important question is the grill, Are there gills at the barbaques of the campsites? or should we have our on grill to cook the food on the fire??

I would also like to know about the namibian typical food, where can I obtain info about that???

The first supermaket contact in namibia will be in windhoek. then we are going to stay 8 days in Ethosa, and after that, we are going out through galton gate to hoada, and then spitzkoppe. any idea of where to find a supermarket after ethosa, and before swakop???

Another worry is about the clothes. I am arriving Windo at 22 of October, and leaving 11 of November. Planing to stay in ethosa, hoada, spitzkoppe, swakop, and sesriem, and I am not sure about the whether in the day, and the themperature in the night in a tent. We have hired an hilux in Zebra Campers, and they have told that the car is equiped with duvets instead of sleeping bags. Would it be enought or should we take our own slepping bags as well???

WOW , some questions !!!

It depends when you arrive in Namibia.
There are stores, you will be surprised and you will believe you are in Europe. 😁
We always went to SPAR, there you will find everything you will need.
Next to the Spar there mostly are Bottlestores, where you buy Wine Beer Gin Tonic....
Only on Sundays and Saterday afternoon the Bottlestores are closed. 🙁
Meet is perfect either in a Farmstore or also in SPAR.
In Etoshacamps you will also find Stores but they do not have to much choice.

Be sure to have a coolbox , you can buy one in SPAR and Icecubes are also to buy there.
What you need for 20 Days ist hard to tell, it depents what you eat normally. 😁
We do eat breakfast for Lunch we have some fruit and cookies and in the evening we put on the Barbecue, meat in Namibia is delicious 🤩 🤩


We are not camper so there I cannot give you any advice.

write your own list - as you would do at home - and if you recognize after one/two days, that you've forgotten something, - buy it in the next supermarket.

and: in Oct. its nicely warm... 🙂

2) I might plan to take some spanish food with me, ham, some bottled fish, but is it allowed to enter food in namibia??? - not allowed and not necessary; you are travelling to Namibia for a reason (and I doubt that this reason is to eat spanish food?)
3) I would also like to know about the namibian typical food, where can I obtain info about that??? - do a Windhoek City Tour (e.g. with www.bwana.de) and get an insight into local food at the Katutura markets. Or visit Xwama restaurant in Winhdoek. But remember: "Typical" for Namibia is also German and South African (Boere) food!
4) Planing to stay in ethosa, hoada, spitzkoppe, swakop, and sesriem, and I am not sure about the whether in the day, and the themperature in the night in a tent. - November is the hottest months - do not expect any night temperature below 20 and day temperature more around 40+. The coast can always be cool and it is recommended to stay in a "real" room.

Thanks for the replys. I am doing a supermarket list. I am dark rhum lover, and would like to hav some in Namibia, but I am not sure if it is a common product there, Is it??

On the other hand, I arrives Windhoek the 22nd of October, and the idea is to pic up the hilux, and then before going to Urban camp to sleep, go to a supermarket to make the big shop. Could you recomend any supermarket in Windhoek, between Olympia (where we pic the car) and Urban camp??

Another relevant detail is about a barbaque gril or braai, Is it included in most campsites??? or should we take our own???

travelling means "getting to know local culture, eat something different compared to home, enjoy another way of life, etc." - I am sure you can sacrifice on drinks and food you normally get at home for 3-4 weeks, can't you? If not I recommend to stay at home... 😉

It is - but the alcohol content is not more than 40%. I hope that is enough 😉

I would recommend Maerua Superspar (you can google it and see the position on Google maps). You will get a lot of European products there - don't know about Spanish food though - does Sangria count 😛 ? Certainly we have olives, and tomatoes...
There is a bottle store right next door to the supermarket where you can buy your dark rum. Last time I looked it was on the right hand side, close to the windhoek.

Camping sites are normally equipped with a braai grill, but we always have our own with us because you never know...some of the grills don't look that "lekker" anymore (a very important word in Namibia, meaning "nice", "appetising", "wonderful" ....)

Don't forget to buy biltong. That is very important "padkos" (food to go).
