Hallo liebe Formis,
Also, auf in`s Abenteuer Afrika!

PRESS RELEASE
The Botswana Power Corporation wishes to notify all electricity consumers and the public in general that there will be a series of outages affecting key 220kV and 400kV electricity transmission lines between 01 April and 15 May 2012.
The lines provide the main routes for the transportation and importation of electricity within the country and from the region. It is anticipated that during this period, the availability and capacity of the transmission grid will be significantly constrained.
The outages are necessary to facilitate the connection and integration of the Morupule B Power Station to the national transmission grid.
In order to maintain the supply of electricity to customers at as high a level as possible, there will be need to reconfigure the transmission system. To relieve pressure on the reconfigured system and, therefore, minimise service interruptions in different parts of the country during this period, the Corporation is appealing to all users to assist by managing their electricity demand through, among others:
1. Minimising the use of electrical hot water geysers during the day and, in particular, switching them OFF during peak periods of 6.00am to 10.00am and 6.00pm to 10.00pm
2. Reducing to the absolute minimum the use of, and where possible switching OFF, all electricity- intensive appliances e.g. air conditioners, electrical cooking stoves, electrical irons, swimming pool pumps etc
3. Switching OFF all lights that are NOT absolutely necessary and minimising external lighting where possible.
4. Applying the GOLDEN RULE of: “IF NOT IN USE, SWICTH IT OFF”. This requires that televisions and other electronic appliances be switched off completely when they are not in use, rather than being left on standby.
While the Corporation will do all that is possible to maintain service continuity, consumers are advised that consideration for the integrity of the transmission system might compel the Corporation
to institute service interruption (load-shedding) measures to reduce electricity demand.
The alternative could be a forced collapse of the transmission system, with wider and more prolonged service interruptions.
It is important to note that loss of supply might occur as a result of the integration works referred to above or as a result of faults and other incidents affecting the electricity supply system. Customers are, therefore, requested to continue to report any non-notified loss of supply service to the nearest BPC office. In all cases, customers are urged to treat all installations as live, since power may return or be restored without prior notice.
The Corporation sincerely regrets any inconvenience that might be caused by these outages, which are a necessary step towards improving the country’s electricity supply security.
