Press conference

President Declares state of emergency as from 17 March 2020 over the whole country.

Minister of Health:

NEW MEASURES IMPLEMENTED:

1. Travel ban at the International Airport and ports of people arriving by air or by sea from:
Schengen States, China, Iran, Korea, UK, USA, Japan

2. Temporary Travel ban for Namibians, Temporary Residents, except for special occasions and with permission of Minister of Health and Social Services.
Special cases include
Medical treatment
Humanitarian assistants
Namibians returning
Truck drivers bringing food etc.
Compulsionary screening with quarantine where necessary.

3. All business, social and leisure travel suspended.

4. All international flights, scheduled or private chartered to land at OR Tambo or Walvis Bay.

5. All passenger international flights to and from high infected countries are suspended for 30 days. Cargo not affected.

6. All Namibians an PRP arriving from high infection countries will be subjected to supervised self-quarantine for 10 days.

7. South African borders to remain open for visitors to exit and for Namibians to return and for trade.

8. No public allowed at court proceedings

9. Mandatory reporting of suspected Covid -19 cases from state and private facilities.

10. Gatherings of more than 50 people suspended for 30 days.

11. Cautionary measures to be put in place during Livestock auctions for 30 days.

12. Sport events, demonstrations and trade fairs postponed.

13. Accommodation establishments must provide hand sanitisers and masks to all staff and educate visitors and establish origin of travel. Training of staff on preventative measures.

14. Service providers to provide water to the public in places re. Informal settlements.

15. Shopping malls to put measures in place for enhanced hygiene at all times such as alcohol based hand sanitisers and masks.

16. Cosmetic industry implored to manufacture hand sanitisers.
