Botswana Introduces Tourism Development Levy - 01 JUNE 2017
The Ministry of Environment Natural Resources’ Conservation has announced the introduction of an obligatory Tourism Development Levy as of 1st June 2017. All international visitors to Botswana are obliged to pay the new levy of US$30 per person (we are still waiting for confirmation on payment amount for children), at all ports of entry into Botswana as of 1st June 2017. Residents and Citizens of SADC member states are exempt. Payments shall be done at the port of entry through electronic payment machines in US Dollar cash (exact amount please as no change given), or with a debit or credit card (Visa/Master Card only) The Levy is to raise funds for conservation and national tourism development in order to support the growth of the industry and broaden the tourism base.
