Dear Fomis,

I have tried to look for in the forum, but my lack of german makes it a huge job!!!! I am not sure about what kind of insurance choose for the Toyota Hilux with one roof tent that i have rented for 3 weeks in Zebra Campers.

They offers:

-Standard Cover =R30 000 Excess
-CDW1 @ R160 per day+ R10 000 Excess
-CDW2 @ R250 per day with a Zero Excess

I know that it is a difficult question to answer as we do not know what is going to happen, but what says the common sense???

Thanks for your help!!!

Hi yllera,

personally I never take out any specia insurance for any rented car anywhere in the world. If you can afford to loose the excess in a event of accident, do not take one out, otherwise you should reduce your access. A lot of credit card companies include rental vehicle insurance in their card fees, so maybe check yours.

Keep in mind, that underfloor, windscreen and tyre damages are generally in most cases excluded from any standard insurance in Namibia.

Best regards from Windhoek
Christian

Best insurance ever: drive safely and with reduced speed. Speed signs are merely guidelines, not a general commandment (only represent the upper limit) - thus are the speed limits that the car hire company gives you in their contract. Just because they say you may drive 80 on gravel does not mean that you MUST drive 80, or that you CAN drive 80 all the time 😉
I have seen accidents where people were driving through a curve with 60km/h and rolled - and they claimed it wasn't their fault because the road sign ALLOWED them to go 60 after all 🙄
Take it easy, don't rush, don't take any chances, and then odds are high that you will not need to make use of your insurance cover at all.

take care

Also keep in mind that you will always lose insurance cover if negligent driving leads to a damage or an accident, no matter what cover you choose.
If you were too fast: you will pay.
If you hit a non-moving object: you will pay.
If you were under the influence of whatever drugs: you will pay.

All of the above can be avoided. Seeing that overspeeding (especially on gravel roads) is by far the main reason for accidents in Namibia, it should be easy to choose the right option for yourself.

cheers
