Hallo, liebe Fomis,
“We received very surprising and sad news yesterday - the Jetty at Pelican Point has been closed by Namport until further notice due to safety concerns. We have experienced exceptionally strong high tides and waves over the past few month. The jetty took a severe beating, some of the concrete pillars on the beach have collapsed after the waves had washed away the sand underneath.
We had no prior warning from Namport, we found out about the new situation when we fetched our guests for the marine dune day. Two signboards have been put up (see pictures in the attachment). As a result, we will no longer be able to continue our popular marine dune day as it is. Instead, we will have to bring all guests back to walvis bay after a full marine cruise, and continue from there with the Sandwich Harbour part. This is unfortunately beyond our control. We are trying to work on a different solution with Namport and we will of course keep you updated on all news.
Until further notice, we will change all existing marine dune day bookings to a full marine cruise (9h00-12h30) with lunch on the boat in the morning, and an afternoon Sandwich Harbour Excursion as soon as the clients are back in Walvis Bay at 12h30. We will of course offer our popular combo lunch on the afternoon tour.
We try and see the silver lining in the new situation. The guests will be able to use our bathroom facilities in between activities, and they will have 2 lunch breaks during an otherwise very long day. The rate for the "new" marine dune day will also be a bit lower than the "old" marine dune day (1500 N$ instead of 1600 N$ pp for adults). The difference for prepaid bookings will gladly be refunded.
All marine operators have been informed about the changes, everybody is in the same situation. The usage of the jetty is not only at own risk, it is strictly prohibited. Safety always comes first, we cannot take any chances.
Please contact us for new, updated rate sheets and tour descriptions. Cancellations will also of course be accepted if your clients are no longer interested in doing the tour. We regret the changes, we loved the marine dune day the way it was.
Kayak Combos will not be affected at all.”
Mit herzlichen Grüßen aus Swakopmund
